Just Thinking – Rev. Alonzo Perry, Sr. (January 8, 2015)

Praise God for 2015!

God has been good to us. Here we are at the beginning of a new year. Hopefully this year will be filled with plenty of blessings.

Like so many people, I could not help but be saddened by the horrific loss of life in France on Wednesday, January 7th. As shocking and brazen as the attack was, it was carried out in broad daylight. In minutes, images of the attack were being sent all over the world.

What was so shocking about the shooting was that the shooters claimed to have killed people to vindicate the prophet Mohammed. Interestingly, Christianity has also been the subject of much satire and what many would call blasphemy. Yet nowhere does Jesus ask any of His followers to vindicate Him or defend Him.

In fact Jesus said, “’Vengeance is mine and I will repay’ says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19). Perhaps the reason why Jesus declared that He will handle vengeance is because we are not always able to mete out vengeance in a fair way.

I am glad that there are still some things that God reserves for Himself and that he does not depend on me to defend His honor.

Just thinking,

Rev. Alonzo Perry, Sr.
